Maryland, DC, and Virginia, USA
By: Alan Misiaszek CIS 72734,753 - August 1995
This is my second effort at FS5 scenery design. In this package
I have gotten somewhat more ambitious (;>)
For this effort I began using Manfred Moldenhauer's SCASM.EXE v1.4
I found it somewhat easier to use for most of the design process than
Hiroo Umeno's BGLCOMP.EXE
In addition to designing my "home" field, Baltimore Washington
International (BWI) formerly known as Friendship Airport, I have
included 32 other airports from Cecil County Airpark in Elkton, MD
to Winchester Regional in Winchester, VA. A complete listing of
these fields is included below.
Some of the fields include taxiways and all include visual landing
aids, including a new one I designed myself, called APAP or an
"Alignment of Elements System". This consists of a set of panels
next to the runway which when aligned visually indicate the proper
glide slope. This wasn't available in any form so .........
I have inluded a text file for use as a macro for those of you who use
Manfred Moldenhauer's SCASM.EXE.
Also included is a macro file for an antenna array I believe is a
VORTAC set. In appearance this somewhat resembles one I saw At BWI.
There are 5 airports in the selection menu:
BWI
Martin Field
College Park, MD Field
Frederick, MD
Washington Dulles International
and 3 ATIS systems active
Baltimore Washington International BWI @ 127.80mHz
Washington Dulles International IAD @ 134.85mHz
Washington National International DCA @ 134.65mHz
I am continuing to work on adding more visual elements to this
scenery, taxiways and beacons first, then other structures,
hangers, etc.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
I. WHAT'S INCLUDED
MDVAREAD.TXT - You're reading it.
MDVA1.BGL - All regular taxiways, runways, and small strutural
elements.
MDVA2.BGL - NAVaids (ILS, Markers) for the three major fields
as well as most, if not all of the NDB's for the region.
MDVA3.BGL - the Airports menu and ATIS messages.
BWI4.BGL - The Passenger Terminal and Tower at BWI including most
of the boarding gates on Concourses A, B, C and part of D.
This is similar to the file I included with the BWI set,
it also includes the fire station south of the terminal.
APAP.SCM - The macro file for the visual panel landing aid. Full
documentation is included within the file itself as
commented lines.
VORTAC.SCM - The macro file for the VORTAC antenna array.
All files were compiled using Manfred Moldenhauer's SCASM.EXE v1.4,
except BWI4.BGL which was done with Hiroo Umeno's BGLCOMP.EXE v1.0e
All data for runways (heading, alt, lighting, locations, etc.) comes from:
UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT FLIGHT INFORMATION PUBLICATIONS:
U.S. TERMINAL PROCEDURES - NORTHEAST (NE) VOL 3 0F 3 effective 20 JUL 1995
and/or
AIRPORT/FACILITY DIRECTORY - NORTHEAST U.S. effective 20 JUL 1995
and/or
USGS 7.5min MAPS for BWI, IAD, DCA, and MTN
All headings are true based on magnetic corrections given in these
documents. All altitudes are good to within 1 meter of actuals, also
based on these documents.
>>>> BTW: Some airfields, that have more than one runway, but for which
there was no airport diagram in the Terminal Procedures book, have been
created with some artistic liberties. I believe the main runways will
be close to reality but I had to "fudge" the secondaries so if they
aren't OK or close please let me know how to fix them: actual headings,
coordinates, landing aids, etc.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I will be compiling a Radio Aids text file to give all the radio
frequencies for each of the airfields for release in the near future.
II. INSTALLING AND USING THE FILES
Copy all the *.BGL files to your FS5 scenery directory and go fly.
III. WARRANTY
There is no warranty of any kind written or implied included with
this scenery for damage or conflict with other FS5 scenery of any kind.
At the time of upload I did my best to ensure that the scenery was error
free.
THIS SCENERY HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON -- FS5.0a --.!!!! I still don't
have a copy of FS 5.1 (MAYBE BY CHRISTMAS?)
I would like to thank David Jarinko for the inspiration he gave me
with his excellent work on Philadelphia and Greg Senia as well for
his efforts.
I highly recommend Drake Sanders CHESA.BGL. Take offs from Martin Field
over the water of the Chesapeake Bay are spectacular.
Thanks a Million, Drake!
Thanks and credits to:
Manfred Moldenhauer for SCASM.EXE Version 1.4,
Hiroo Umeno for BGLCOMP Version 1.0e,
Drake Sanders for CHESA.BGL,
John Trindle for NE3_ISS.zip,
Oliver Briot for SCNDOC,
And all the many others in CI$ FlightSim+ Forum for their ideas,
articles, and utilities.
